Why this course
Learn to create and maintain a WordPress website, configure an existing theme and make modest HTML and CSS changes. No prior programming experience is required.
The course uses explanations, guided practical work, assessments and a website project. It does not cover server installation, web-server administration or full theme redevelopment.

- Explain how websites, HTML elements and CSS rules work together.
- Install and configure themes in a prepared WordPress environment.
- Create and update pages, posts and other permitted content.
- Use theme-supported controls and targeted CSS to customise presentation.
- Make small HTML changes and recognise when a task requires deeper development knowledge.
- Investigate common minor issues and apply basic website security practices.
Prerequisites
Basic computer, file-management and web-browsing skills; no previous programming required.
A computer with a current browser, text editor and access to a prepared WordPress training site. Adequate storage and reliable internet access are needed; photo editing and secure file-transfer tools are used where the exercises require them.

01Module 1 — Web, HTML and CSS foundations4 topics
- Prepare the working environment; understand browsers, servers, HTTP and HTTPS.
- HTML document structure, tags, elements, links, tables, classes and multimedia.
- CSS syntax, typography, colours, alignment, images, media and the box model.
- Practice and foundation assessment.
02Module 2 — WordPress content and site configuration5 topics
- Dashboard access, site structure, editors and settings.
- Plugins, themes and theme-dependent widget areas.
- Block editor and Site Editor for block themes; Customizer where supported by the active theme.
- Pages, blog and news posts, RSS feeds and selected custom content.
- Website project and progress assessment.
03Module 3 — Understanding extensions and structure3 topics
- Overview of WordPress internals and extension points without full theme redevelopment.
- Add-ons and theme structure, including hybrid approaches where applicable.
- Review the project and incorporate feedback.
04Module 4 — Targeted customisation and troubleshooting5 topics
- Theme-supported styling controls and small CSS changes.
- Introductory JavaScript and code-snippet demonstrations in a training environment.
- Small component and content customisations; recognise the boundary between simple changes and developer work.
- Common troubleshooting steps and a security overview: updates, trusted themes/plugins, account access and backups.
- Final project review and assessment.
Practice environment and tools
A current browser and code editor such as Visual Studio Code are used for exercises. An image editor and secure file-transfer client may be used for selected tasks. Instructor-side containers or hosting infrastructure are demonstration facilities, not learner deployment requirements.
