SAP S/4HANA Transition and ABAP Foundations
Business-process orientation and a prepared development walkthrough
Why this course
A three-day introduction to SAPS/4HANA for participants exploring enterprise processes and technical transition. Compare legacySAPR/3/ECC concepts with the arrangedS/4HANA environment, practise selected transactions and inspect a small preparedABAP application path.
Navigation and business-process activities are beginner-oriented; the technical segment is a scaffolded walkthrough, not ABAP mastery or a full system migration. Edition, authorisations, licences and available development interfaces determine the lab.
Learning outcomes
- Navigate selectedSAPGUI/Fiori tasks and explain introductoryS/4HANA architecture.
- Trace a prepared sales-to-billing and procurement example with relevant master data.
- Describe authorisation, landscape, transport and cutover-planning considerations.
- Explain the role ofABAP,CDS,OData and a separateFioriUI in a prepared application.
- Compare legacyBOPF/SEGW patterns with currentRAP concepts at an introductory level.
Prerequisites
- Basic computer literacy; priorSAP knowledge is helpful but not mandatory for orientation.
- Basic programming/ABAP familiarity is recommended for adapting the technical exercise; otherwise follow the demonstration.
- Access to the arrangedS/4HANA learning system and appropriate user/developer permissions.
3 modules
01Day 1 — SAP Evolution, Architecture and Navigation1 topics
Understanding SAP’s Evolution
- Origins of SAP R/3 and the ERP Business Suite
- Transition to SAP S/4 HANA: motivations and technological drivers
SAP Solutions Landscape
- Overview of enterprise modules and business suites
- Positioning of S/4 HANA in the SAP ecosystem
System Navigation Basics
- Logging in, user interface comparison (SAP GUI vs Fiori Launchpad)
- Practical navigation exercises
Key Concepts of S/4 HANA & Fiori
- Data simplification, SAPHANA in-memory database concepts and embedded analytics
- Core capabilities and latency/data-availability limits of analytics
LegacyR/3/ECC andS/4HANA: introductory differences
- Data structures: Universal Journal, simplified data model
- Interface and process changes; implementation-dependent outcomes
SAP Authorization & System Landscape
- User roles, authorizations, system types (Dev, QA, Prod)
- Overview of landscape architecture and client strategy
DistinguishSAPR/3 from laterECC rather than treat the terms as identical. Edition-specificFiori/app availability and authorised transactions differ.
02Day 2 — Business Processes and Implementation Context1 topics
Order-to-Cash Process Flow
- Sales order → outbound delivery/picking → post goods issue → billing, for the prepared standard scenario
- Hands-on simulation in S/4 HANA
Procure-to-Pay Process Flow
- Create Purchase Order → Goods Receipt → Invoice Posting
- Prepared fictional procurement-scenario walkthrough
Data Modeling and Master Data
- Overview of master data (customer, vendor, material)
- Impact of data models in S/4 vs ECC
Business Process Integration
- Integrating order, inventory, procurement, and billing
- Monitoring transaction lifecycle and error handling
Hands-On: Practical Scenario
- Selected sales-cycle simulation from order through billing
- Analysis of system messages and troubleshooting steps
3: Technical Underpinnings & Implementation Strategy
Underlying Technologies
- Application platforms, web servers, HANA database fundamentals
- Role of Fiori Apps and their architecture
Transport Management & Configuration
- Concepts of customizing, transport requests, and system movements
- Controlled transport/release and rollback considerations
Implementation Strategy
- Designing a roadmap for migration or greenfield implementation
- Cutover planning, roll-out considerations, stakeholder engagement
System Administration Essentials
- Basics of authorization configuration, client strategy, technical setup
Practise selected steps in a prepared business cycle, not a live transaction. Inspect dependencies, system messages, responsibilities and migration/greenfield planning limits.
03Day 3 — ABAP and a Prepared Application Walkthrough1 topics
Tooling and Data Models
ABAP Development in S/4 HANA
- ABAP concepts and a scaffolded code walkthrough
ABAP Tooling Setup
- ABAPDevelopmentTools in the arrangedEclipse environment, with release/permission checks
ABAP models, services and technical strategy
CDS Views
- CDS data models and consumption/projection concepts; pattern depends on release and programming model
Transactional Logic, Services and UI
Transactional behaviour: currentRAP concepts and legacyBOPF comparison
- Inspect prepared behaviour/BOPF artifacts where supported;BOBT is a legacy-context demonstration
OData Services & UI
- OData service exposure via the appropriateGateway/RAP path;FioriUI is separate, not automatically generated bySEGW
Hands-On: Build Custom S/4 App
- Inspect a prepared path from data/CDS and transactional behaviour toOData service andFioriUI
Implementation Strategy & Transport Management
- Demonstrate controlled changes/transports in a learning landscape, not production movement
Technical Architecture & Admin
- ABAP under the hood in S/4—HANA DB, performance, system administration.
Small Design Exercise and Review
Final Project
- Define a simple custom S/4 HANA app based on business scenario: outline tables, CDS views, object logic, exposed services, UI.
Wrap-Up
- Consolidated review, next steps for continued learning (e.g., RAP, advanced ABAP).
Sketch a bounded app and inspect prepared artifacts. ModernRAP usesCDS models, behaviour and service bindings; legacyBOPF/SEGW examples are compared only where supported, not presented as a universal current-cloud path.
