Introduction

Why this course

Build a canvas app for browser and mobile use with Power Apps Studio, controls, Power Fx and selected standard data connections. Practise SharePoint integration and simple automation, then explore custom-branded mobile packaging.

The mobile module introduces the current wrap, signing and distribution process for Android and iOS. A build demonstration depends on a suitably prepared environment; full native-platform development or guaranteed app-store publication is not part of this three-day course.

Learning outcomes

Explain where canvas apps fit in the Power Platform.
Create screens, controls, reusable components and dynamic behaviour.
Use formulas, filters and selected data operations.
Connect to SharePoint and an appropriate Excel source.
Integrate selected Power Automate, Forms-response and email workflows.
Customise and test a SharePoint list form.
Publish/share a canvas app and distinguish app access from resource permissions.
Explain the wrap workflow, platform signing requirements and supported mobile distribution routes.

Prerequisites

Basic computer, file upload/download and file-system skills.
Experience using SharePoint.
An organisational account with suitable Power Apps, SharePoint and Power Automate entitlements and lab permissions.
Supported browser, reliable internet and the designated environment; suitable email access for the email exercise.
For a wrap build demonstration: a prepared solution-enabled environment, appropriate licensing, app-registration/storage permissions, signing assets and suitable test devices; otherwise the build is demonstrated.

01Day 1 — Canvas Apps and User Interfaces6 topics

Platform exploration, course orientation and environment setup.
Canvas, screens, controls and dynamic properties.
Complex controls, actions and functional behaviour.
Rich text, markup/media support, buttons, icons and clickable elements.
Reusable UI components and selected visualisations.
Build a first app interface.

02Day 2 — Formulas and Data Connections6 topics

Plan app logic; Power Fx operators, formulas, filters and aggregate functions.
Create, read, update and delete selected lab records.
Connect to compatible Excel data and SharePoint lists; use lookup relationships.
Introduce Power Automate flows and supported email integration.
Handle Microsoft Forms responses through Power Automate, not a direct Power Apps Forms connector.
Review relevant data-query/delegation limitations and test the sample data.

03Day 3 — SharePoint Forms, Mobile Packaging and Publishing8 topics

Customise a SharePoint list form and test SharePointIntegration lifecycle events.
Review app, data, flow and connection permissions; Power Platform environments and canvas-app packaging.
Distinguish standalone app sharing from list-inherited access to customised SharePoint forms.
Mobile overview: canvas apps in the browser/Power Apps mobile client versus a custom-branded wrapped native shell.
Android and iOS platform requirements, app registration, branding, build output and signing responsibilities.
Demonstrate the current wrap wizard in a prepared environment, using an appropriate Dataverse or Azure Blob output option.
Discuss supported store or managed-device distribution routes and test the selected sample; public store release remains subject to platform prerequisites and review.
Save, publish and share the canvas app; review the completed work.
